CIPS Qualifier Slam Featuring John Hedderwick


HYP is sending a representative to the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Championship taking place in Vancouver! This will be a very different Slam from our usual two round of three minute poems, In honour of CIPS we will be doing our first 3 round slam.

The Feature.

Jon Hedderwick is a poet, activist, film producer, organizer and educator of mixed Ashkenazi Jewish and Scottish ancestry. He lives as a settler on the land of the Mississauga Anishinabek in Nogojiwanong – Peterborough, Ontario where he performs, organizes and mentors emerging poets with the Peterborough Poetry Slam Collective. Jon was the Festival Director for the 2017 Canadian Festival of Spoken Word (CFSW). He has performed and taught workshops across the country individually and as a member of three Peterborough Poetry Slam Teams. He is a Haiku Death Master having placed second in the CFSW Haiku Death Match in Saskatoon in 2016 and has published four chapbooks of poetry. In addition to his work as a poet, he also works as an Employment Counsellor and freelance film producer. His most recent project with Free Food Films, a documentary project entitled Pushback, follows the lives of individuals who have been persistently homeless in Peterborough, Ontario He and his partner Jennifer have traveled extensively and they live happily in Peterborough, Ontario with their cat and daughter Wrenna; she is magical! They spend as much time as possible tending to their gardens and wandering aimlessly through the woods looking for feathers, stones and other wondrous things.
